THREE U.S. GOVERNMENT AGENCIES ARE COOPERATING IN A "LARGE AREA CROP INVENTORY EXPERIMENT (LACIE)". SCIENTISTS WORKING ON PROJECT LACIE ARE EXPERIMENTING WITH LANDSAT IMAGERY TO ESTIMATE CROP PRODUCTION ON A WORLDWIDE BASIS. IN ADDITION, SATELLITE INFORMATION PROVIDES A COMPREHENSIVE VIEW OF OUR FOREST LANDS, IMAGES WHICH MAY HELP IMPROVE THE MANAGEMENT OF FORESTS. SATELLITE IMAGERY ALSO HELPS CONTROL INSECT DESTRUCTION OF CROPS AND TREES BY PINPOINTING INFESTED AREAS FOR SPRAYING. Made possible by a donation from Shawn Masters.
