An army chaplain holds mass and wounded soldiers are treated. Part 2, aerial and amphibious assaults are made against Makin Island, in the Gilbert group, and New Britain. Troop reinforcements land on Bougainville, in the Solomons. A carrier task force battles Japanese kamikaze planes off the Marshall Islands.
